  1. Read label and SDS
    • Before using Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant, familiarize yourself with all hazards, precautions, and instructions by reading the product label and safety data sheet.
  2. Preclean Surfaces
    • For heavily soiled areas, complete a preliminary cleaning by removing gross filth or heavy soil so that the surface is clean, and the disinfectant can effectively saturate the substrate
  4. Application Methods
    • Apply Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant undiluted to hard, non-porous surfaces thoroughly wetting the surfaces with a cloth, mop, sponge, sprayer, or by immersion.  For sprayer applications, use a coarse spray device.  Spray 6-8 inches from the surface; rub with brush, sponge, or cloth.  Avoid breathing the spray.
      • Coarse sprayer types include garden sprayers, trigger sprayers, and airless sprayers at low pressure
  5. Allow the treated surface to REMAIN WET FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES Wipe dry with a cloth, sponge, or mop or allow to air dry.


  1. 40-80 is NOT recommended as a hand sanitizer
  2. Fogging is not a use included on our label.  You can apply by coarse sprays such as trigger, garden, or airless sprayers at low pressure.
  3. Per the product label, empty pails are not reusable or returnable.  They can be recycled based on plastic-type as stamped on the bottom of the pail.
  4. Returns of Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant are NOT ACCEPTED.  The customer is responsible to follow the proper storage and disposal instructions on the label.
  5. Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant does not contain any Prop 65 chemicals - section 15 of SDS.
  6. As stated on the label, Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant may be used on washable, hard, non-porous surfaces such as tables, floors, walls, and countertops.  It may be used in hospitals, homes, institutional locations such as restaurants, hotels, health clubs, spas, etcetera.  If used on food prep surfaces, the label directions require rinsing of all surfaces that come in contact with food such as countertops, appliances, tables, and stovetops with potable water before reuse.  Please see a copy of the product label for relevant food processing statements highlighted.  NOTE - the product would not be used on utensils, glassware or dishes.
  7. Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant is NOT for food contact surfaces in food production facilities.  There are not any FDA approvals for this product.  Do not use for sanitizing food production equipment.  As stated on the label, "Before used in a federally inspected meat and poultry food processing plants and dairies, food products and packaging materials must be removed from the room or carefully protected."  Therefore this product would not be appropriate for food production areas, but other areas in the plant where food is not present or can be isolated, it may be possible.  See label instructions.
  8. Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant is NOT for use on medical device surfaces.

  10. Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant does not degrade like diluted bleach and remains at full strength for the duration of the shelf life.
  11. Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant is registered for use and sales in California.
  12. Are there any surfaces where the product is not recommended?
    • Disinfectant claims against viruses and other disease organisms can't be made for porous materials such as carpet, drywall, unfinished wood, and cement board.
    • Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant is effective against odor-causing bacteria and fungi for cleaning and deodorizing on porous materials following water damage as described on the product label.  If used to deodorize porous materials, confirm the product will not damage or discolor the material on a small inconspicuous area prior to full application.
  13. Can finished flooring be sprayed with the product without harm to the flooring finish?
    • Yes, the product will not degrade or harm typical finished flooring.  This includes wood, vinyl, and ceramic/porcelain tile, marble, natural stone, etc.
  14. What type of PPE is required to use this product?
    • Generally speaking, handling hazards are minimal.  If staying, safety glasses are suggested to avoid spraying in eyes.  Gloves are not normally required, as this product is not normally considered a skin hazard.  However, if prolonged or repeated contact is expected, nitrile gloves could be used for added protection.  Refer to the SDS for more details.
  15. There is a potential for water damage to electronics and Foster® 40-80 First Defense® Disinfectant is not be recommended for use on electronics.
