The Gasket Retainer screws into the strainer during the rough-in installation of the drain shoe to help locate the tub drain opening and keep the tub gasket in place on the drain shoe. After the drain shoe is correctly located, the Gasket Retainer is removed and the drain strainer can be installed. A standard strainer tool can be used to remove the Gasket Retainer.
